In & Around
I've been walking around and exploring bits of the city. On Queen West I was introduced to the Magic Pony Gallery (www.maginc-pony.com). Needless to say I was blown away. In the window was a display of large (plaster?) jellyfish, and inside were some great gems, including the above Kozyndan print (mounted $60, stand alone $30).
Also checked out QuasiModo (www.quasimodomodern.com). Very cool and of course they stock Bensen- among many many others.
On my list of clothing stores to check out are Finn and TNT in Yorkville.
Finn is located a 1 Yorkville Ave, and is a small but beautiful store that sells women's clothes and accessories as well as a few home furnishings. I saw a beautiful gem incrusted frog ring, a small grey snakeskin clutch, and some great flow-y summer dresses as well as a jumper that could double as high-waister bubble skirt. The price points are high (most items start around $180) but most brands are small, detail oriented labels. You must check it out if for nothing other than the magnificent (plexiglass?) swan chandelier. (As soon as I get a connecting cord for my phone I will post some pics)
TNT (http://www.tntthenewtrend.com) is located in what must be one of the most expensive malls in Toronto. There is a concept store upstairs on the main level but the real find is the store on the lower mall level. This one is unisex and is packed with treasures. Labels like Velvet, Voom (anchor dress pictured above available in red and turqoise) and Mike & Chris, and unlike other stores in Yorkville (that shall remain namesless) they don't try to cheat their customers by mixing in overly priced low end goodies for the unsuspecting shopper.
The service is excellent (We went in 20 minutes before closing and stayed about an extra 45 minutes and were never rushed by the courteous staff). They also have an extensive denim collection stocking Earnest Sewn (apparently the store is in some familial-way connected with this brand), Superfine, Citizen, Tsubi, & J Brand among others. So instead of purchasing those ACNE's I'd been holding out for I got some amazing stone coloured bootcut (Tommy) Superfine's (with grey and pink pinstripped pocket lining) and a pair of dark-washed Citizen wide-legs (eventhough I had some reservations about the embroidered anchor pocket detailing). Again, the price points are HIGH (sky high- we are in Yorkville afterall) but the quality and design make it feel worthwhile. Loved the shopping atmosphere and will definately be going there again.

Busy
So I've been a bit MIA lately but I have excuses!! Here's a rundown of the things that have been occupying my time:
-hockey (Canucks and Sabres but now that my hometown team is out of the playoffs it's only 1/2 the distraction)
-wedding (my dad's not mine- complete with kick ass dress from Christina Darling from Fine Finds- photo to come)
- MOVING. moving.moving.moving. and all those fun little things associated with this hectic task.
- Packing. Ridiculous amounts of packing.
-Mando Diao (tonight at plaza!)
- family
-friends
-partying (it was my Birthday last weekend)
-shopping (post birthday shopping sunday- Drooled over a few shoes at Livestock- deadstock.ca- the above pair and a pair of two toned brown woven nike hightops... tried on a few pair of jeans at Dutil but still holding out for some cigarette-cutAcne's- altho I'm starting to gravitate towards wideleg jeans & $10 fill-a-bag sale @ Discollection)
On another note, my shopping consisted of finding out that one of my favorite consignment stores was CLOSING!!! RIP Discollection.
Toronto I see you....

It pays to be mean
245: Allure of the Mean Friend
What is it about them, our mean friends (or the people we just wish we were friends with)? They treat us badly, they don't call us back, they cancel plans at the last minute, and yet we come back for more. Popular bullies exist in business, politics, everywhere. How do they stay so popular?
A friend recently turned me onto This American Life, I know it's such a predictable 'hipster' thing to be listening to but I figure you can't put a tag on good listening.

Bang Bang
Lilly Allen (ok she's been rocking the look for a while as well), Naomi Campbell, Nicole Richie, Liv Tyler, Halle Berry.... the list keeps growing! Why do these bitches feel the need to go and jack my hair style?! (i keed, i keed- well sort of) All I need now is for an Olsen, Lohan and Sienna Miller to get on the bang-wagon... aw hell.
I blame Irina, she reminded everyone how good a fringe can look. Incidentally, I'm excited to see how they style her for the upcoming Kate Moss/Top shop adds. It's good to see that Kate remains loyal to her (and Pete's) friends. Let's see if (or how) that extended to the record IK has reportedly been recording.
Tea the way Big Brother liked it
below are his 11 rules to drinking tea.
1. Use tea from India or Ceylon (Sri Lanka), not China
2. Use a teapot, preferably ceramic
3. Warm the pot over direct heat
4. Tea should be strong - six spoons of leaves per 1 litre
5. Let the leaves move around the pot - no bags or strainers
6. Take the pot to the boiling kettle
7. Stir or shake the pot
8. Drink out of a tall, mug-shaped tea cup
9. Don't add creamy milk
10. Add milk to the tea, not vice versa
11. No sugar!
Panic Averted!
Although I have been on a shopping ban as of late I have been eyeing a pair a gold or metllaic-ish sandals for the summer. I'm looking for a nice summer shoe, not to formal but can be dresed up and a slight heel. (i've added a pair of silve stella for addidas just because I get distracted)

Pictures like crazy
This is a massive picture post, the highlight reel of my vacation pictures.
I'm trying to upload the better part of the 90+ photos i took onto my photobucket account.
I'll post the link (although I'm sure it's somehwere in one of the backitems) in a bit, then I can start posting all those myspace comments. By the way, I'm trying to choose between myspace and facebook, which is better and why?

Boss

Well after all that sunshine I knew it was coming. Last night Halifax took all my complaints about Toronto weather, bent them over and spanked them. The last two nights can be summed up in one word, Terrible, Thursday for that horrible movie I had the unfortunate priveldge of watching and Friday for the weather.
However, I cannot complain about the company. I don't really want to leave Halifax, how could I not be having a great time?! Good food, great company and some the best antiques and dollar stores ever!
This morning it was beautiful, a sloppy, slushy mess but positively balmy. We went to the farmer's market and picked up some fresh digby scallops for lunch.

Before the storm
Went for some of the BEST antique shopping ever today in the North end of Hali. Took some great pictures and lots of photos of antique furniture for Elfred. Here are a few tasters. Tonight is African dance class (with a whole lot of hippies im told) and then lobster!
This house is the exact same colour as the new 'cleavage' or buttondown shirt I just got from AA.

snowing in my eyeballs

Toronto was just a lot of eating and hanging out, and snow. It wasn't that cold just some fierce wind and lots of snow, the combination of which would send icy snowflakes flying directly into my eyeballs.
Halifax is really cute and I couldn't have asked for better weather. Everything is pretty close together lots of walking. Gramamamers, Lael and I went to Value Village in Dartmoth today. One of the best VV trips I have ever made!!!! Shoes galore, the best find were the size 5 boys Nike's Graham found for me (pictured above), this really rad gold belt for Lael and a bandana/scarf thing with gold medallions for Gramers (pictured to come).

double take
Did anyone else notice the similarities between this month's Vogue shoot photographed by David Sims "Glamorama", edited by Grace Coddington and November 2006's "Get Happy"? Aside from the coco rocha shot at the end, well let's just say Im happy at natalia and mario could bring some fresh goods.

Thanks a lot Chaucer
I'm anti-Valentine's day as a rule (Yeah, I know that makes me a bitter, unromantic cynic)but today I find it difficult to keep such a stance. Not only did I wake up to a Happy Valentine's Day msg on my phone but when I got into work I had a(very unexpected) card and lots of chocolate and candy from my co-workers, now if that doesn't make a grinch's heart grow a few times larger than I dont know what will.
Did you know that Chaucer is recognized as the first person to associate Feb 14th, St Valentine's feast day, with romantic love? Read all about such associations at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Valentine

Holy Fur Batman!
I would like to preface this entry by saying that I have been really lethargic and unmotivated in keeping up with all the fall collections. The last two seasons have been really underwhelming for me. Sure my style.com lookbook is packed with stuff, but I haven't seen anything to get me really excited and bubbling over with energy and ideas. In other words No Real POPWHOABAMMFLASH!
The award for most excessive and (sometimes hideous) use of fur at the NYC fashion week:
Oscar de la Renta
I have never been one to be all animal rights and up in people's faces about eating KFC or wearing fur/leather or any of that shit but come on! One in every 4 outfits that he sent down the runway had fur incorporated into the look.
It was as if he had his minions go into some wildlife preserve with a right to shoot, kill, and skin anything that was fury and moved.
Does a little shrug like the one above really compliment the dress that well? I didn't think so.
One of the examples of using fur beautifully.
